Elected leaders need to stand up for our kids—not just when it’s easy, not just when the economy is up. Every day.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened – Yet. State and city budget proposals now being debated in Albany would cut $500 million from school budgets.

A cut that massive would devastate our classrooms and hurt our kids. Class sizes will skyrocket. Tutoring and college prep programs will be cut. Computers, textbooks and basic school supplies will be reduced. Science and writing labs will be downsized. Art, music, theater and sports programs will be eliminated. Thousands of great teachers will be laid off.

Unless everyone works together, that is.

Time is short. The state budget, already long overdue, is being negotiated now. The City budget is due by the end of June.

The UFT, along with parents and community allies, are working hard to stop the cuts, save our schools and protect children. We are fighting for the proper funding of ALL schools and to avoid ALL layoffs.

And we need YOUR help.
